What is Physical Therapy?
Physical Therapy involvedirect treatment to assist people in returning to their previous functional status. The emphasis is always on the goals that the patient has in mind. This can be as simple as returning to daily activities or as advanced as returning to sports. The goal of Physical Therapy is also to provide education regarding the underlying cause of symptoms or injuries in order to help prevent recurrence of problems in the future.

Who can benefit from Physical Therapy?
Our physical therapists work with individuals of all ages. When people think of physical therapy, they often think that it is only for individuals who have had an injury or a previous surgery. The truth is physical therapy can benefit many individuals. Whether you are suffering from chronic pain or just need a refresher on what exercises may be beneficial to you, physical therapy can help.

What is involved in the Physical Therapy process?
Your physical therapist will use a very comprehensive approach in determining exactly what you will need to obtain the maximum benefit from your rehab. First, your therapist will do a thorough evaluation and then develop a customized plan of care that addresses all of the specific findings. Many times a home exercise program is developed and given to you to perform between sessions and after discharge.

If you cannot keep your appointment, please call us as soon as possible. We realize that sometimes emergencies come up and your plans may change. When you call, we will help you reschedule your appointment. Giving us as much notice as possible helps us better serve you and our other patients.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose clothing. We have a changing room available for your convenience. Please be conscious of wearing loose clothing around the area specific to your injury. For example: if you have a neck or shoulder injury - wear a tank top; if you have a knee or hip injury - wear shorts, etc.

How long is each session?
Your first visit includes the comprehensive evaluation and takes 60-90 minutes. Sessions thereafter are determined by your condition, approximately 60 minutes. Your physical therapist will develop an individually customized plan of care, so each program will vary in time depending on your particular requirements.

How often will I need to come to Physical Therapy?
Your plan of care will be constructed based on the recommendation of your doctor and your physical therapist. The average schedule is 2-3 times per week. Your schedule will depend on the degree of injury/dysfunction and your available time.

What if I have questions after I leave?
Feel free to call us if you ever have any questions regarding your treatment or your home exercises. We would prefer that you speak to your physical therapist to confirm that you are following your plan of care and avoiding any further injury.

Do I need a referral from my healthcare provider before seeing a physical therapist?
Yes. In Alabama you must have a referral from your healthcare provider in order for insurance companies to reimburse for physical therapy.

I want to go to Spine & Rehab Solutions, but my healthcare provider referred me elsewhere. Can I choose my own physical therapist?
Yes! You can choose your physical therapy provider even if you have a prescription for a different physical therapist. Bring your prescription with you to your first appointment and we will take care of the rest!

How does my referring healthcare provider know how my treatment is progressing?
Your physical therapist is in regular communication with your doctor, especially if there are any complications.
